1150323-China Coast Guard Harassment in Dongsha Waters , Mar 23, 2026
Mainland China Coast Guard Exploits Dense Fog to Conduct Formation Intrusion into Kinmen Water; Taiwan Coast Guard Utilizes Radar Detection and Forward Deployment to Firmly Expel Intruding Vessels
On March 23, dense fog formed in the Kinmen water due to changing weather conditions. The Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) took advantage of reduced visibility to intrude into Taiwan’s water. The 12th Patrol Area under the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch promptly detected the approaching vessels through its surveillance systems and immediately deployed pre-positioned patrol boats to conduct parallel monitoring and expulsion operations.
At approximately 09:00, the 12th Patrol Area identified through its surveillance and reconnaissance system that CCG vessels were gathering under conditions of limited visibility. Patrol boats were immediately dispatched and forward deployed along the Restricted Area boundary.
At 09:30, four CCG vessels — 14609, 14531, 14604, and 14507 — entered the Kinmen Restricted Water in two separate formations, approaching from the southwest of Liaoluo and the south of Dadan.
TCGA patrol boats immediately conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring, while issuing radio warnings in Mandarin and English, sternly demanding that the vessels alter course and depart.
Demonstrating firm resolve in safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime security, TCGA patrol boats successfully compelled all four vessels to exit the Kinmen Restricted Water at 11:30.
TCGA emphasized that the Mainland China Coast Guard continues to alter its gray zone harassment tactics, which have seriously affected regional peace and navigational safety. Such unprofessional and hazardous behavior should cease immediately.
TCGA further stressed that regardless of conditions—whether rough seas or dense fog—the Coast Guard will spare no effort in safeguarding every inch of Taiwan’s maritime territory. TCGA remains confident and capable of ensuring maritime security and will continue to strengthen surveillance operations and coastal-maritime response mechanisms to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and security.
